[Haul] First Colourpop Cosmetics Order

Hi!

I have been waiting for my order to arrive. This is my first time ordering from Colourpop. You have probably heard of this company because the Youtube community has been raving about this.

A little about Colourpop
ColourPop was born, raised and made with love in the City of Angels (aka Los Angeles) so we can react quickly to the latest and greatest trends and get them in your fabulous hands stat.

PS. We are 100% fur baby friendly, bunny approved, and only test our products on humans – the ones in our HQ to be exact.- Colourpop.com
Colourpop is quite young, it just celebrated its 1-year old birthday last month. HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY COLOURPOP!

I find it a little odd that my order did not come in a delivery box but it came in an envelope. Thankfully, everything survived! Inside the package, there's a hand written card from Colourpop and three other descriptive cards about the products I ordered. Okay, here comes the actual haul.

1) Super Shock Cheek in FOX ($8 USD)

This is a mid tone warm coral that has a satin finish. I love this color, it gives me the natural post-work out flush. The texture of the blush is different from any other blush I've ever tried. It's not a powder, it almost feel like it's wet, but it's not. It's a little bit bouncy, but it is really pigmented like a cream blush. If you know what the Maybelline  Dream Bouncy Blush or Benefit Majorette blush feel like, the Coloupop blush is a less bouncy than those.

It is suggested to apply the product with your fingers. If you want to use a brush, you can use synthetic stipple brush or flat synthetic foundation brush.

Left to Right: Fox, Birthday Girl

2) Super Shock Shadow in Birthday Girl

This is the limited edition eye shadow for Colourpop's 1-year-old birthday. During the birthday celebration, you get this shadow for free with any purchase!! (That's one of the reason I decided to make me order during that time.) The texture of the shadow is similar to the blush and the application is same as the blush, but the formula is even more pigmented. The color is beautiful, gold/brown with sparkles. This is not a color I will use everyday but I will definitely use this during special occasions.

The rest are lippies. They are twist up lipstick in a pencil. stick form called Lippie Stix. They come in different finishes but surprisingly I only got stain and matte finishes. I tried every color on my lips already. I love how they all glide on easily, creamy and does not drag the lips. All the color I got show up really well. However, I hate the scent, especially when I first applied them. It has a plastic scent but the scent disappears after a while. The color stains the lips but the color do transfer, even after I blot the color after application. In addition, without food and drink the color stays beautifully for a long time. Best part yet, they are $5 a piece!!!

Left to right: Fancy, Clique, Tootsi, Frida, Lumiere, Lumiere(pencil)

Left to right: Fancy, Clique, Tootsi, Frida, Lumiere, Lumiere(Pencil)

3) Lippie Stix in Fancy
- Neutral mid tone coral with a satin finish

4) Lippie Stix in Clique
- Orangey red with a matte finish. I am obsessed with the color. It really pops! I think orangey red really suits my complexion!

5) Lippie Stix in Tootsi
- Cool-toned grey-ish beige with a matter finish
This color does not look good on me, it's too grey for my complexion, it made me look like I was sick.

6) Lippie Stix in Frida (Collaboration with Coffee Break with Dani)
- Warm mid tone nude pink with a satin finish. It has a little coral, pink and brown, supposedly, the color will look different on everyone depending on your skin tone.

7) Lippie Stix + Pencil in Lumiere (Collaboration with Kathleen Lights)
- Dusty mauve pink with a matte finish. This color shows up purpley pink on me, I've never tried something like this before. I love it so much! I have not tried the pencil on the lips but the color looks exactly like the lippie stick.

Overall I am really happy with my order. Although it took a while for me to receive my order, I'm glad none of the products are broken.  I love everything besides Tootsi. I would definitely order from them again, I would love to try more lip products, blushes and more neutral, everyday eye shadows. I will try all of the products a little more and update you my thoughts!

What's In MyTravel Makeup Bag?

Summer is finally here! Hooray! Which means it is time for travelling and vacations!

I received this train case as a gift and I have been using this every time I am on vacation. It fits nicely into my luggage and it fits all my essentials!

This is what it looks like when I put everything in there. I love that there are two removable compartments. This allow me to utilize it in so many ways. For example, if I want to carry a small makeup bag in my purse, I can use one of these compartments. Or if I have something a bit bigger to fit in the train case, I can remove one compartment. Another great thing about the compartments is that they are made out of clear plastic material, this way it is easy to clean up and I can see what is in the bag clearly. The lid of the train case is designed to carry brushes, how convenient! I just love how I can be really organized with this!

I really like having things organized, so I actually have a system of what goes into each compartment. (I guess this is why I love this makeup train case so much.) Everything is divided into 3 categories, with the obvious brush section on the lid. Then I have one just for face products. The other one is everything else. So let's talk about them section by section.

Before I start, I just want to say that many of these products are my holy grail and I have talked about them in previous posts. Please refer to other posts if you want a review on a particular product or just ask me in the comments section below.

Face Section

1) Benefit Porefessional
2) MUFE Nourishing Primer
3) Maybelline CC Cream
4) Maybelline Cover Stick
5) Rimmel Match Perfect

6) Model Co. Blush in Cosmopolitan: I got this in my Feb 2015 Glam Bag. Cosmopolitan is a ballerina pink color,. It is super pigmented, so I like to use a stipple brush to slowly build the color up.

7) E.L.F Complexion Powder

8) Bare Minerals Powder Brush: This brush is small but it is very dense, it allows a flawless application. I really like to travel with it to save room.

ETC Section

This compartment consists of eyes related products, lip products, etc.

1)Benefit Naked Basics : MUST HAVE! It's just a perfect every day palette

2) Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye liner

3)Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

4)Eyelash curler: This one is by Emite Make Up, and it was from my February Glam bag as well. I really like this curler. It does not pinch my eye lids and it gives a nice curl easily.

5)Kiehl's Eucalyptus Lip Relief: It is a very hydrating lip balm, since it is meant to be used on a plane. It gives a minty and tingly feeling when you apply them. The feeling and scent lasts pretty long, and I really like it.

6)Beauty Blender

7)Urban Decay Lipstick: This is a mini size lipstick I got from a Sephora Favorite pack. This is in the shade Naked. It is my perfect pinky nude color that looks very natural on the skin. I can wear this color with any look so I love to bring it around. The formula itself is long lasting and not drying at all!

On a side note, I really think this is a must have for everyday and especially for business formal settings or business trip.

8)Dior Lip Glow: This is another simple every day color that goes with every look.

9)Boscia Blotting Paper: Boscia carries many different line/ scent of blotting paper. The one I have in green tea. The paper itself actually have a slight green tea scent. I like how it blots away excess oil but not drying out my skin nor wipe away my makeup.

10)Travel/ Sample Size Fragrance: Every time I pack for my trip I will bring out my big stash of sample/ traveling perfume. Since I have so many perfume samples, I travel with a different one almost every time. This is a good time for me to really try out a perfume and it is really easy to travel with. Lately, I have been loving the Dior J'adore perfume, it has a floral scent. I think it is very summer appropriate.

Brushes

1)E.L.F. Stipple Brush
2) My Makeup Brush Set Flat top foundation
3) Angled Eye Liner Brush
4) Angled Brow Brush
5) E.L.F Spooly Brush
6) Crown Double Ended Eye Brush
7) Luxie Beauty Fluffy Blending Brush

I did not show my face cream, toners, makeup remover, etc. because I keep them with my toiletries. Also, a lot of the skincare products I bring are from my everyday skin care routine. I will either transfer them in a smaller container or find a travel/ sample size if I can find it. If you have not already, you can check out My Everyday Skincare Routine.

I hope this is somewhat helpful for people that are traveling! If you are traveling, leave a comment/ or tweet me where you are going and share with me your essentials! If you are not traveling, you can also share with me where you want to travel to and what will you be bringing if you go on a trip!

May 2015 Favorites

Wow!  I remember starting this blog with my April Favorites, it feels like April was just yesterday! I can't believe May is already over.

May was more of a "rediscover" month for me. I purchased some new products toward the end of May, but I could not include that in my favorites because some packages have not arrived yet. There are also products that I just purchased few days ago, I don't think it would be fair to say they are my May favorites. Let's get started!

1) Guerlain- La Petite Robe Noire Eau de Toilette

The weather has been really warm here in Vancouver, I figured it was time to bring out my summer perfume stash. I've talked about this in a previous post (My Perfume Collection), you can click on the link and read more about it there!

2) Guerlain- Rouge Automatique in Mitsouko140

I got this lipstick last winter and never had a chance to wear it. Mitsouko 140 is a shimmery coral color with a mix of orange and pink. It definitely screams summer to me! I typically don't like shimmery/ frosty color but since it's a summer lipstick, I made an exception! The color fades through out the day; however, it fades out naturally and does not look patchy at all. The formula is quite smooth and not drying. Packaging looks luxurious, the gold and the automatic lever!!!I have to admit; however, when applying this lipstick, I feel that the packaging is a little too bulky, other than that it's awesome!

3)YSL VOLUPTÉ Sheer Candy - Glossy Balm Crystal Color in 15 Rose Candy

Left to right: YSL, Guerlain

I mentioned this in my April Favorites, check it out if you haven't already. This is truly an everyday color for me because the color is quite sheer and it's not frosty. The color stays on my lips for a long time and it does not dry out my lips. Also, it tastes yummy! This color is now only available on Sephora's website (exclusive color for Sephora). Go check it out!

4) ELF- Stipple Brush

This is a rediscover favorite. E.L.F brushes were the first ever brushes I bought when I first started. They are so affordable and most of them have pretty good quality. This one was from their Studio Line, $3 each. This stipple brush was meant for foundation, and that was the reason why I got it. However, I realized this brush is actually not dense enough for the flawless foundation look I like. Right now I'm using this brush for my blush. As you can see in the picture, the brush tip is pink. I like to dip this brush in my blush and stipple it on my face. It gives the blush a more natural look and it's fool proof because it allows me to build up the blush color layer by layer.

If you have a blush that is way too pigmented, you can try using a stippling brush. It will give you more control over how much color you want on your face.

5) ELF- Complexion Perfection "Cool"

Another rediscover product. This is actually my second repurchase. Like I mentioned earlier, E.L.F was the first makeup brand I have ever purchased from. This is one of the product I bought in my first purchase, and I loved it! After I finished the first one, I never bought one again because it is only available on the ELF website in the states. Fortunately, I received this as a gift recently and I finally remember how much I love this!

Anyways, this is a complexion perfection powder that has blue, pink, green and yellow powder. You need to use a fluffy powder brush to swirl is all around. Mine is in the color "cool" but I believe they came out with  a "warm" tone also. This corrects my skin color really nicely. Lately when I don't feel like foundations or CC cream. I would apply concealer to needed area and use this powder all over the face. It sets my concealer and brightens up my skin. It's like magic!! This has no shimmer whatsoever so it's suitable for all skin type. Use a primer or moisturizer that suits your skin type underneath will give you a even better result.

6) Stila-Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Dark Brown

This is one of the best liquid eye liners I have ever tried. It is easy to control and it really stays on all day through rain or sweat without any primer. I have both the black and the dark brown one but I prefer dark brown because I think it looks more natural. One thing to remember is that it dries and set really fast, have your cotton swab and eye makeup remover ready to clean off the edges.

7) Urban Decay- 24/7 Glide on Lip Pencil in Ozone

I received this in my May IPSY Glam Bag. I love it! I have been using it almost every day, It does not dry out my lips and it goes well under my lipstick. It grasps on to my lipstick and really help the lipstick color stay on longer. I've also noticed that it's easier to remove lipstick at the end of the day if I use this under the lipstick. I would definitely purchase the full size when I am finish this.

Well that's all for my May favorites! I know there's not much this month but a lot of the products I am currently using were favorites from last month, that's how much I love them! Subscribe to my blog if you don't want to miss my future posts, there may be a few hauls(?) first impressions(?) my collections(?) in the up coming weeks. haha Let me know what you were loving in May and also what you would like to see next! [Comparison] Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz V.S. Chella Eyebrow Color Pencil

Hi!

Today I am comparing the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz and the Chella Eyebrow Color Pencil. I am sure many people heard of the Anastasia Brow Wiz before, it has been raved by many youtubers when it first came out. I was introduced to the brand Chella by IPSY, if you haven't already, you can read my IPSY May Glambag Unboxing.

Top: Anastasia Brow Wiz/ Bottom: Chella Eyebrow Color Pencil

1) Company Claim

Anastasia
An ultraslim mechanical pencil to shape, define, and fill in your brows for a natural, polished look. Sometimes brows need a little magic. This must-have pencil features an ultrafine, retractable tip to fill in gaps easily and mimic brow hair. Perfect for spot checking areas that may be sparse or over-tweezed, the smear-proof formula wears all day for a natural, fresh look. -"Sephora.ca"

Chella
The fine tip on this sleek European-designed mechanical pencil has a creamy consistency that glides into place and can also be lightly smudged for a more natural look (use the brush/comb attachment on Chella's razor, sold separately, to achieve this effect).-"Chella.com"

2) Product Texture
Left: Chella/ Right: Anastasia

Both products glide on smoothly. I find that the Anastasia one is stiffer in texture, more firm. Dom't get me wrong though, it does not hurt or pull the skin, it glides on smooth. Sometimes it requires a few stroke to see the color. The Chella one; however, feels more creamy, one swipe gets the color I wanted.

3) Staying Power
I did a test with wearing the product one on each side through out the day without brow gel. At the end of the day, my brows were both in place. I used a makeup wipe and it showed that both product were still on my brows. (YAY!)

4) packaging
Anastasia

The packaging is sleek and black with  copper/ orange writings. It is double ended, with the twist up brow pencil on one side and a spooly on the other side. Even though the spooly is convenient when travelling but it gets really dirty after a while. It is hard to clean but if you use it without cleaning it, there will be some fallout from the spooly. The whole product is a bit longer than other eyeliners or brow pencils, if you want to travel with it, it might be a snugg fit for regular makeup bags.

Chella

I mentioned in the May Glam Bag post that the white packaging seems a bit cheap to me at first glance. However, I don't mind the white packaging anymore, it is so much easier to find this product especially when it's put next to a bunch of black pencils. The packaging is actually pretty good quality, the cap did not fall off from the pencil when I travel. I like the length of the overall packaging since it is pretty much the same size as other pencil product. This is also a twist up pencil that is convenient. One down side is that it does not have the spooly on the other end, which means I need to bring an extra spooly or eyebrow brush.

5) Color Range
Left to Right: Anastasia Dark Brown, Chella Tantalizing Taupe, Anastasia Soft Brown

Anastasia
There are 9 colors to choose from. I have the Soft Brown and Dark Brown. I tend to grab the soft brown since I like my brow a bit lighter.

Chella
There are 6 colors in total. I received this in Tantalizing Taupe from my IPSY glam bag. I did not get to choose my color nor did I have the opportunity to try out different color. Having said that, I think this color works well on me.

6) Price/ Availability

Anastasia
$27CAD
This is available at Sephora

Chella
$18 USD
I believe you can only get this from Chella.com

Overall
Both products are amazing! The both have the convenient twist up applicator, provide easy control and are travel friendly. I really recommend the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz. It has a wider color range and it is available in store for you to find the right shade. The Chella Eyebrow Color Pencil is more creamy and more affordable; however, for Canadians especially, it is not as conveniently reachable. For me even though I love both product, when both of the run out, I will gravitate toward repurchasing the Anastasia Brow Wiz because they are really similar and it is easier for me to find the Anastasia one.

That's all for today, let me know if you have tried any of these products and what you think about it. What other comparisons or posts would you want to see? Let me know on my social media or leave a comment below. Thanks!

Ting.

[Comparison] Clarins HydraQuench VS Neutrogena HydraBoost

Hi!

As I mentioned in my skin care routine, I have recently been into exploring skin care products, especially facial moisturizer.Today I want to share with you a comparison between Clarins HydraQuench Cream Gel and the new Neutrogena HydraBoost Gel Cream. I have already mentioned the Clarins HydraQuench in my April Favorites, so you know I love this product. When I saw the commercial for Neutrogena's HydraBoost, it immediately reminds me of the Clarins HydraQuench.

Quick Notes on my skin
  • Sensitive
  • Dehydrated
  • Occasional oily t-zone
  • Occasional flaky nose

Let's get started!

1) Company Product Claims
Clarins:
Clarins’ Hydraquench line is a saving grace for normal to combination skin types, which are more prone to dullness and the subtle signs of ageing. Hydraquench Cream-Gel for Normal to Combination Skin offers deep hydration and a cooling sensation to dehydrated skin while tightening the pores. This unique complex turns to water upon contact with the skin. This hydrating face cream soothes and refreshes the skin while working to tone and refine the skin’s surface. This results in a smooth and long-lasting matte complexion with no trace of oily residue or shine

Neutrogena:
Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel is a refreshing, lightweight water gel that instantly quenches and continuously hydrates skin. Formulated with hyaluronic acid, it boosts hydration and locks it in so skin stays hydrated, smooth and supple day after day. Applies effortlessly, absorbing quickly into skin without leaving behind an oily or greasy feel.Hydro Boost hydrates skin through an approach of replenishing water and strengthening skin’s moisture barrier, leveraging two key ingredients:

2) Special Ingredient
Both contains Hyaluronic Acid. I did some research on this ingredient. According to Paulaschoice.com, Hyaluronic Acid boost skin's moisture content, reduce inflammation, have cell-communicating abilitites, and help prevent moisture loss. It also acts like a sponge for dry skin cells, that absorb water and slowly but continuously releases moisture back into skin, keeping skin hydrated throughout the day. This is an important ingredient to have for moisturizers that are made for dehydrated skin, and sensitive skin.

Clarins:
Katafray extract: helps reinforce skin's surface barrier effect and helps prevent dehydration.
Sorbier bud extract: reinforces skin hydration and radiance.
Pomegranate extract: tightens pores.

Alpine willow herb extract: helps reduce skin shine.

Neutrogena
Olive Extract: Strengthen the skin’s moisture barrier, prevent excessive moisture loss. It also helps leave skin feeling soft and smooth without tackiness.

3) Formula
Left: Clarins/ Right: Neutrogena

Both products have Cream Gel formula. The formulas are light weight, absorbs easily and quickly. Both formula works pretty much the same. I would apply it on my face, quickly massage it into my skin. Few seconds after application, my face feels instantly moisturized but does not feel wet. I really enjoy the cream gel formula; however, I need to be careful because products that absorb easily usually contains alcohol. This is a perfect consistency/ texture for spring and summer because it does not linger on the face and is not sticky. Another advantage is that it can be worn underneath makeup.

ClarinsIt has a dryer consistency. The product itself is white but blends out clear. Even though it is marketed for normal to combination skin but it works for my skin.

Neutrogena: The formula is pretty white, juggles around in the container. It has a light blue color that also blends out clear.

4) Scent
They both have some sort of scents. Clarins has a light fresh scent while the Neutrogena one has a pretty strong soapy scent. I am not bothered by any of these scents; however, the Neutrogena one took me some time to get used to. To be fair, I was used to Clarin's scent since I started to use that prior to the Neutrogena one.

5) Packaging

Honestly, the similarity between the two packaging is the first thing that caught my eye. Both has a blue container with a white cap. Clarin's packaging feels more luxurious because the container itself is made with glass and it also has a stopper underneath the lid. Neutrogena on the other hand, has a plastic-like container without the stopper. I wish the Neutrogena one comes with a stopper; like I mentioned earlier, this formula is a lot runnier, having the stopper would really help.

6) Prices/ Accessibility
Clarins: .
$ 50 CAD 50ml
From Clarins/ Shoppers Drug Mart/Sephora

Neutrogena:
$24.99 CAD 47ml
From any drugstore that sells Neutrogena

Overall
I tried both product together on my face for a few times.I find that both products did what it claimed to do, providing moisture and calms my irritated skin. I find that the Neutrogena HydraBoost absorbs a little faster than the Clarin's HydraQuench. However, I prefer the scent of the Clarins  HydraQuench. I think the Neutrogena HydraBoost is definitely a good alternative for the Clarins HydraQuench since the results are the same and it is about half the price. I really recommend using one of these two products if you have dehydrated skin, sensitive skin and or irritated skin.

That's all for today, let me know what you think about comparison posts, and let me know what other product comparisons you want to see.

Yours Truly,

Ting
